Slips – Warehouses

Approximately 200,000 of us in the UK work in warehouses or storage units so it is hardly surprising that we at Russell Worth solicitors are asked to help with a number of trips, slips and falls for workers and visitors to these facilities.  

Common incidents that we are asked to look into include:-

1. Slips on spillages and wet floors. Warehouses and storage units tend to be extremely busy places so if a spillage occurs it is not uncommon for it to be left for quite some time while the workforce prioritises other tasks over and above cleaning up.
2. Trips over debris. Not dissimilar to what we see with spillages, if items are dropped or discarded then often it is not seen as a priority to clear them up and they can be left until the end of a shift resulting in a tripping hazard.
3. Falls from pallet racks/shelves. Often caused by workers trying to save time by climbing up without using the correct equipment.
4. Poor lighting. Poor lighting can be a trip hazard anywhere but even more so in stairways.
